Pension credit is extra money to help with living costs so if a patient is over state pension age and on a low income they can claim it and get access to other benefits such as:
- the Winter Fuel Payment
- a free TV licence if aged 75 or over
- help with NHS dental treatment, glasses, and hospital transport costs
- other benefits depending on circumstances.
In Kent, a third of the people who are eligible for pension credit are not claiming it, that’s around 17,678 households who are missing out. The average household could get around £186 per month, which is a significant amount and can help with meeting essential costs to keep healthy.
Patients can check if they are eligible on GOV.UK and claim for pension credit on GOV.UK.
