National Carers Week: 9 – 15 June

A carer is anyone who cares, unpaid, for a friend or family member who, due to illness, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction, cannot cope without their support.

As part of National Carers’ Week, our  GP practice teams  continue to routinely identify and register patients who are unpaid. This helps ensure carers receive support in their caring role which can often impact heavily on their own health and wellbeing. If anything happens to them it also raises the alert there is someone “at home” who needs care.

Whilst progress has been made, only 2.5% of patients are registered as carers, so there is some way to go.

We encourage patients to register as carers, if they do care for their loved ones.
